Hope

Jesus Christ offers hope to everyone, without exception. He offers hope to those feeling hopeless. For those feeling totally alone, depressed, and hopeless, the Bible has a message for you. There is hope for the hopeless.

The Feeling Of Giving Up Hope

Feeling depressed and alone? Feeling, hopeless, depressed, and alone? Hurting, desperate, and ready to give up?
The feeling of hopelessness is terrible. The motivation to do anything is absent. Purpose is gone. Value for anything has vanished.

The Reasons For Feeling Hopeless

There are many reasons people feel hopeless. These range from relationship problems, to change in life, to aging, to loss of loved ones, to loss of opportunities, to drug dependence, to disease and genetics. But the most important sense of hopelessness comes from spiritual emptiness.
God designed us to need Him. We are created in His image. We need to be with Him and like Him. When we are disconnected from God, we are lacking the most important need in our lives.
Attempts to find hope without God lead to addictions that only trap people into lifestyles they end up regretting. This adds to their feeling of hopelessness.

Finding hope In Jesus Christ

If you feel lonely and depressed and are fighting the feeling of hopelessness, you are not alone in how you feel. There are many who are feeling trapped without hope of relief.
But many have found comfort and hope in Jesus Christ. He has delivered them from loneliness and hopelessness. There is hope for you too. Second Corinthians 1:3-4 offers comfort with these words,

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”

God offers exactly what you need. He forgives, He comforts, and He confirms His love to you. Receiving forgiveness is important to feeling good when you have wronged someone. Second Corinthians 2:7 says,

“So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow. Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.”

God always offers forgiveness. He is always ready to comfort.

Finding Hope for Forgiveness from God

As I mentioned earlier, we are created with a need for God. He is our Creator and Designer. We are designed with a need to be completed with a relationship with our Creator.
Our relationship with God is broken when we sin. There is a sense of guilt and impending doom.
Sin is not just actions. Sin is any thought that is contrary to God’s will. For example, Jesus said in Matthew 5:28,

“But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”

While Jesus was talking to the Jewish leaders of His day, Matthew 9:4 explains,

“And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?”

In God’s eyes, thoughts of evil are just as bad as doing evil. Just the thought of wanting to steal, cheat, lie, and hurt someone is as bad as doing it, in God’s eyes.
Sin is an offense to God. It is an offense far greater than any offense we can imagine. As God, He is an infinite being, and sin offends Him to an infinite degree. So then, when we sin, God reacts to an infinite degree and must separate Himself from sin and those who commit sin. He puts, as it were, an infinite distance between Him and the offender. This means that a sinner has no relationship with God. This loss of relationship causes a sense of impending doom, loneliness, and guilt.
We need His forgiveness in order to be restored in fellowship with Him and restored in peace of mind. To resolve the guilt and shame that result from sin, we need His forgiveness.
Fortunately, God is always willing to forgive. First John 1:9 says,

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
